Two more players have put pen to paper to sign up for the cause of taking St Albans City FC to promotion in season 2026-27, writes Jess Unwin.
The sixth new face to join the squad at Clarence Park is striker Mikey Faulkner, who was one of the Isthmian League North Division’s standout performers last season.
Twenty-year-old Faulkner contributed 25 goals and 15 assists in a Maldon & Tiptree side that won promotion as division champions.
Having started his football journey in the Southend FC academy, he then spent time at Heybridge Swifts, Basildon United and Bowers & Pitsea before switching to Maldon & Tiptree.
He described last season as “a brilliant season on a personal level” and is now keen do just as well for the Saints as they strive to win back their place in the National League South.
Joining him in the City squad for next season is 26-year-old centre back and former Cheshunt captain, Darion Furlong (main photo). He is the son of former professional Paul Furlong and brother of Darnell Furlong, who currently plays for Ipswich Town.
Discussing his arrival on club podcast, Saints and the City, Furlong reflected fondly on memories of visiting Clarence Park as a youngster: “My dad moved to St Albans towards the end of his career, so I used to come with him every Saturday.” He added: ““To play for the Saints is a privilege now,” he said. “St Albans are a good club, a big club.”
St Albans manager Gary McCann told the podcast it was proving a “tough” summer transfer market but added he felt Saints had already done “some really good business” to get the right team balance – and promised more player signings in the pipeline.
