St Albans City skipper Zane Banton and five other players have agreed to sign on for another season with the club.
Banton is joined by midfielder Alex Dyer, who has been outstanding for Saints, and has so far been ever-present in the Isthmian League Premier Division during the present campaign.
Full backs Jack James and Lewis Page have also committed their futures to St Albans, as have goalkeeper Sam Donkin, who has helped to bring about City’s recent improvement in form, and exciting winger Kieran Petrie, who has been both a scorer and provider of goals.
Retaining dynamic midfielder Banton – a club stalwart and Saints’ longest-serving player with more than 300 appearances for the club – is a significant boost for St Albans.
He has scored close to 70 goals over a nine-season span in Saints colours and is the last remaining member of the current Saints squad who played in the 2021 FA Cup 1st round game against Forest Green Rovers, netting one of the goals in a 3-2 victory that was shown live on BBC TV.
• The loan deals for Jake Grante and Amar Sanghrajka, with Crystal Palace and Watford respectively, have come to an end. Grante did particularly well during his time at Clarence Park, forming an effective centre back pairing with Sonny Hart.
