Harpenden pub at risk of subsidence following collapsed sewer

Work is underway to underpin The Cross Keys pub in Harpenden High Street.

Essential work is underway to protect the integrity of an iconic Harpenden pub at risk of subsidence.

Thames Water are carrying out repairs in High Street, just outside The Cross Keys pub, following a sewer collapse at the end of last year.

Cracks have appeared in the walls of the Grade II listed building – which dates back to the 18th century – and it is now being underpinned to prevent further damage and allow for repairs to take place.

High Street is currently closed while the work takes place, but the pub is open as usual. The repairs are expected to be completed by March 2.
