County investigating St Peter’s Street lights after year-long fault

If you’ve thought St Peter’s Street was a bit on the dark side for the past year, you’re probably not alone.

Approximately a third of the street lights have been out of order for months, according to local resident David Kaloczi.

He told the St Albans Times: “I’m fed up with so many basic highways maintenance issues not being dealt with for months or years, and the county council only interested in discussing unwanted cycle schemes or Victoria Street alterations.

“I have been chasing up these numerous defunct bulbs on our near-pitch black main street for approximately a year.

“Herts Highways are not fit for purpose and I wouldn’t trust them to run a bath!”

The St Albans Times contacted HCC for comment, and then contacted them again when they did not respond the first time.

A spokesperson said: “Our engineers are investigating why there are a number of lights apparently not working in St Peter’s Street. They are examining the data from the control systems to try and establish the cause, and a team will be visiting the site at night this week to confirm which lights are not working properly. Once we’ve identified the cause of the problem we will look to send a crew to carry out repairs.”
