Heathlands School is celebrating another year of GCSE success, with students achieving excellent results and demonstrating the determination, resilience and talent that define the school community.
Heathlands is one of a few specialist deaf schools in the UK, with a national reputation for excellence in Deaf education.
The school delivers a highly specialised curriculum through a Total Communication approach, incorporating British Sign Language (BSL), spoken and written English, and carefully adapted teaching
strategies designed to meet the needs of Deaf learners. This approach has helped the school achieve exceptional outcomes and national recognition for pupil progress.
Co-Headteachers Sarah Aitken and Lesley Reeves Costi said: “We are incredibly proud of all our students and the determination they have shown throughout their GCSE studies. Their achievements represent years of hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to learning. These results are a testament to the strength of our school community and the belief that Deaf children can achieve at
the very highest levels when provided with the right support, opportunities and high expectations.”
This year’s GCSE cohort has once again demonstrated that Deaf children can thrive academically when barriers to learning are removed and aspirations are set high.
Heathlands is a national deaf school, serving children from over 32 different Local Authorities. As a result, GCSEs are emailed out on results day so pupils are celebrating at home with their families.
Some students will now progress to the school’s growing Sixth Form provision, while others will continue their educational journeys at colleges and specialist training providers.
The entire Heathlands community congratulates the Class of 2026 and wishes them every success in their next steps.
