Former England cricketer Stuart Broad has recently launched his own wine range, Beyond the Wicket, in collaboration with Laithwaites Wine. This venture marks an exciting new chapter for Broad, who has long harboured a passion for wine, cultivated during his international cricket career.
Broad’s love for wine blossomed as he travelled the world playing cricket. He often found himself exploring local vineyards and learning about different wine-making traditions.
This passion has now culminated in the creation of Beyond the Wicket.
Broad explains: “My love of wine came through playing cricket for England, and that’s why my range is from the New World – it’s based around places where I’ve played and memories, I’ve gained away from the cricket field.”
The Beyond the Wicket range features a selection of wines that reflect Broad’s global cricketing journey.
There are six wines available in this collection.
Beyond the Wicket Viognier 2024, Western Cape £10.99 Mix 6
Crafted by Journey’s End, South Africa’s leading Fairtrade and Carbon Neutral producer, this Viognier is a delightful blend of succulent peach and pear flavours with a refreshing charm. It evokes memories of Stuart Broad’s tours to South Africa.
Beyond the Wicket Sauvignon Blanc 2023, Nelson £10.99 Mix 6
This Sauvignon Blanc, a “hidden gem” from Nelson pioneers Seifried Estate, New Zealand’s first commercial winery on the South Island, is a standout. Stuart Broad, introduced to Kiwi Savvy B during his New Zealand tours, describes it as “a belter!” with its ripe, aromatic gooseberry and lime notes. Its also his mum’s favourite wine!
Beyond the Wicket Rosé 2024, Coastal Region £10.99 Mix 6
Stuart Broad believes the best pale pink rosé comes not from Provence, but from South Africa. This rosé, with its strawberries and cream flavours, is a tribute to both his and his father’s highest batting scores – check out the label ‘162’ and ‘169’.

This juicy Cape Malbec from Journey’s End is rich with plum, violet, and smoky spice flavours. It’s the perfect red for enjoying around a braai with friends and teammates, just as Stuart Broad has done. But given the current British weather, perhaps better served indoors with roast beef or a juicy steak.

Created by Andrew McPherson, the “Crocodile Dundee” of winemaking, this barrel-aged Shiraz Cabernet blend from Victoria’s old vines is powerful yet silky smooth and balanced.
Big and bold, it oozes blackcurrant, black cherries with a little spicy oak.

For this English sparkling wine, Stuart Broad turned to Barbara Laithwaite’s Wyfold vineyard in Oxfordshire. The 2019 vintage, a significant year for Stuart with the 50 Overs World Cup and a memorable Ashes series, is celebrated with this elegant, brioche-scented, creamy apple sparkler.
