Social media rumours about the permanent closure of St Albans blood clinic have been dismissed by health bosses.
The walk-in service, at St Albans City Hospital, is currently attended by nearly 10,000 people a month, with huge pressure on car parking at the site.
Posts on local Facebook posts have suggested the service is set to be permanently moved to Hemel Hempstead within a matter of weeks, but this is not the case according to West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
A trust spokesperson said: “The walk-in service for blood tests remains open at St Albans City Hospital. St Albans City Hospital is getting ready to deliver more diagnostic services and to expand its theatre capacity and so the site is busier than normal.
“A booking system is being introduced which will give patients from the St Albans area the option to have their appointment at Hemel Hempstead Hospital or Watford General Hospital, where it may be easier to find a parking space. Work to install the booking service is expected to take place over the summer. We will provide an update when we have a date for its implementation.”
