Doubts over whether the Cathedral’s pair of Peregrine falcons will flee the area following the destruction of their eggs have been on everyone’s minds since yesterday’s tragedy.
But Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust have suggested the birds will stay in spite of what happened.
“We are optimistic that the pair will remain in the area,” said a spokesperson.
The Peregrine pair are very likely to remain at the Cathedral this year – they have been seen mating this morning (April 8). We hope to see a more fruitful attempt to breed again next year. However, they are wild birds and in nature things can change.”
But hopes of another clutch of eggs this year have been ruled out.
“Although the birds have been seen mating since the incident on 7 April, it would be extremely unlikely that they will lay another clutch of eggs this year.”
