A worn out section of paths in Highfield Park has been repaired following a significant investment by Highfield Park Trust, the charity that manages this increasingly popular greenspace.
The reworked section runs from the crossing on Highfield Lane to the West Lodge entrance of the park.
Chief executive Debbie Rixon explained: “The park is 30 years old next year and unsurprisingly our maintenance costs are increasing. We have been mindful for a while that this area needed to be extensively reworked. It is the third phase of work to be completed and the reaction from park users has already been amazing.”
Maggy, a regular user of the park said: “The new paths in Highfield are fabulous, making life so much easier, safer and less stressful when pushing a wheelchair around our beautiful park. The paths are a most positive investment, well done the Highfield Park Team.”
Debbie continued: “The improvements have been made possible by the support of the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund and we are very grateful for their continued support. The park is an incredible space and has so much character and many different spaces for people to enjoy. The repaired section lifts the entire Monks Meadow section of the park.’’
Tim Abbott, chair of trustees added: “Many people are surprised to learn that Highfield is completely charity funded and managed. We have many aspirations for the future, but will only move forward in a sustainable manner. We are progressing all the time and visitors will soon see other improvements in the park. The Natural Play Area is now being extended and we will then start to roll out new notice boards and signage. We know that we are not the finished article, but it’s an exciting time.”
