A local group of walking and hiking enthusiasts have announced their upcoming series of nature walks.

Founded more than 30 years ago, the St Albans Rambler group aims to bring people together to explore the scenic routes of Hertfordshire and further afield.

Their walks cater to various levels of fitness and experience, from beginners to the seasoned hikers, and the group currently has over 150 members.

Spokesperson Emmet Hart explained: “The group has long since been a staple of the St Albans community, promoting walking that encourages both mental and physical well-being, and friendship. Whether you are looking to enjoy a three-mile walk through picturesque countryside or a more challenging hike across the region’s historic trails, the St Albans Rambler provides an opportunity to connect with nature and meet new people and stay active.”

In a typical year, the group has three to four local walks of varying lengths in a month, as well as four to five UK walking holidays varying from two to five days away a year. On top of this, they have at least one ‘adventurous walking week’ which takes place abroad..

The upcoming walks through the Hertfordshire landscapes are as follows:

Sunday, October 27 – Walkers will be in Heartwood Forest for 2.5 hours from 9.30am;

Sunday, November 10 – A 12-mile walk from Wheathampstead;

Thursday, November 14 – A social three-mile walk followed by lunch;

Wednesday, November 20 – A morning route of about 6 miles around Ashridge and Frithsden;

Sunday, November 24 – A brisk walk around Verulam and Chiswell Green of about 2.5 hours at 9.30am.
