The long-awaited resurfacing of the pothole-riddled Victoria Street railway bridge has been completed at last.
The project has been promoted by Green Party county councillor Matt Fisher, who says it is a major step forward for active travel, commuter safety, and protecting vehicles from unnecessary wear and tear.
Its deteriorated condition was not only unsafe but was also causing unseen damage and accelerated wear to cars, bikes, and public transport – increasing costs, reducing reliability, and discouraging active travel.
Cllr Fisher said that after waiting patiently for many months, the new surface was laid overnight between Monday and Tuesday.
St Albans Green Party leader Cllr Simon Grover added: “Roads are a county council responsibility, and as the county councillor for Central St Albans, this was a top priority for Matt Fisher when he was elected last year.
“After months of wrangling, at last we have action. Happy walking, wheeling and driving!”
