Traffic chaos in city centre due to multiple road closures

Motorists should expect delays when trying to navigate their way around St Albans city centre today – as several road closures and diversions are in place at the same time.

Marlborough Road is once again completely closed to traffic as Affinity Water are again attempting to fix a water leak which they previously worked on a few weeks ago. It is scheduled to remain closed until Wednesday.

This has forced cars to use Lattimore Road as a diversion route, with vehicles backing up the length of the road from the Victoria Street traffic lights to London Road.

A spokesperson for Affinity Water said: “A technician attended the junction of London Road and Marlborough Road yesterday afternoon (Thursday), and our teams are currently on site investigating and carrying out repairs.

“We are working to complete the repair as quickly as possible, subject to any unforeseen complications. Once the repair is finished, reinstatement works can take up to three working days. We’ll continue to provide updates as work progresses.”

Meanwhile, High Street is closed westbound while Thames Water tackle another issue, with these works set to carry on until next Friday.

Cars hoping to travel through High Street and on to George Street or Verulam Road are being diverted up St Peter’s Street.
