With the second of four #Sustfest ‘seasons’ just around the corner, the Ember Eco Awards have returned for a third year.
The accolades were created by resident and environmentalist, Lee Wood, to champion the ongoing endeavours of local nature and sustainability initiatives.
“We are fortunate to have people who give their time, expertise, knowledge and passion to benefit our community by working tirelessly to improve the environment, so it’s only right that we have the opportunity to celebrate their achievements” said Lee, owner of local design company, Ember Designs.
“With the district’s sustainability festival adopting a new, year-long model, it was the perfect opportunity to work alongside the project and continue the celebration right the way throughout 2025.”
Danielle Durant (main picture), creator of the wonderful wild garden area in New Greens was the worthy recipient of this year’s first prize back in March, who along with a growing team of volunteers, helped turn the often overlooked green space on Francis Avenue into a thriving, vibrant community garden.
Do you know an amazing school eco-councillor who is helping their class with green initiatives?
Or a faith group going above and beyond to help rewild the local area?
Maybe someone in your street is helping biodiversity or arranging regular community litter picks?
You could even nominate a deserving local business who continues to raise the bar for sustainability?
Lee added: “We want to make sure that all champions have the opportunity to be recognised but we need your help. This award is open to EVERYONE in the St Albans district, so get those thinking caps on.
“The awards were created by our friends at Heartwood Glass and they’ve been amazing supporters throughout the years. They really are stunning prices of art and it’s been such a pleasure to present them to the winning recipients.”
To submit a nomination, simply send your full name along with that of your chosen recipient(s) and a brief synopsis of why you believe they deserve to be recognised to info@emberdesigns.co.uk (rest assured, that’s as far as your information will go).
The winners will be announced following each of the remaining three ‘SustFest’ weekends throughout the year, so plenty of opportunity to get those emails in.
The second #Sustfest weekend runs from Thursday-Monday May 15-19, with nominations accepted until 6pm on Friday March 23. The three-person judging panel will then no doubt have their work cut out to decide the final outcome.
