Oaklands College has celebrated a landmark moment in its history, as its first-ever cohort of T level students graduate with outstanding results.
These trailblazing students are leading the way in a results day that reflects the start of a new era for the college, which is passionate about giving its young people an education that equips them for today’s workplace.
The introduction of T levels – rigorous, career-focused qualifications equivalent to three A levels – has been a major step forward in how the college prepares young people for the world of work, university, and higher apprenticeships. This year, students completing T levels in education and childcare, engineering, and business and administration have achieved excellent outcomes, underpinned by strong industry placements and academic study.
“This is a proud moment for Oaklands,” said Jacqueline Page, Deputy Principal, Curriculum, Performance and Student Experience. “With a pass rate of 100 per cent, our first T level cohort has set the standard for future learners. These students exemplify the future of vocational education—merging academic study with industry placements. We are particularly proud of the fact that many of today’s successful T level students will be going straight into employment.”
One such Oaklands T level student is Amelia. She achieved a distinction and is now going into a job in the fashion industry. Amelia chose the T level route because of the additional work experience it gave her.
“T levels are a qualification designed to give students the perfect balance of classroom-based learning and work experience through extended industry placements,” continued Jacqueline. “Over the past two years, our students have not only developed advanced technical skills in their chosen fields but also built confidence within professional networks they will carry forward into their careers.”
The college’s results day success comes as national momentum builds behind technical learning. Just this month, the Government announced a £100 million investment in 21 new Technical Excellence Colleges, aiming to equip 40,000 people with advanced skills for key industries. Oaklands’ early adoption and success with T levels positions it at the forefront of this shift in education.
While the overall A level results nationally and locally reflect a more challenging year, Oaklands is proud to celebrate individual student success. Tunde Saka achieved three A levels with an A in psychology, which will enable him to do a higher apprenticeship in accounting – a career he hopes to follow.
“We’re incredibly proud of our students today,” said Jacqueline. Their achievements remind us of the importance of nurturing every student’s potential, regardless of the path they choose.”
