One of the city’s amazing charities will be represented on the forthcoming St Albans edition of legendary boardgame Monopoly.
The chosen charity will get to star on one of the game’s Community Chest spaces.
“It’s our way of thanking the public for getting behind the new and official Monopoly: St Albans Edition game so very enthusiastically,” said Ella Gibbs, custom games executive at Winning Moves UK, who are producing the board under license from Hasbro, a toy and game company.
When the St Albans edition launched two weeks ago at the Cathedral, the public was invited to send in general suggestions for local landmarks – such as the Clock Tower and Verulamium Park – to feature in the game. Lines for these general suggestions closes later tonight.
Charities have to be St Albans focused to be in the running to be selected. The public can nominate a charity and charities can nominate themselves.
Ella added: “We would like to formally thank each and every person who has sent in nominations, and, as our way of a thank you, a St Albans charity will now get to star in the game.
“We feel that the charity getting to feature on one of the board’s Community Chest spaces is a great fit, bearing in mind the ‘community’ aspect of these unique Monopoly features.”
In all, 30+ St Albans landmarks and favourites will be showcased in the game, which will be available in October in time for Christmas.
Charity nominations via either the official St Albans Monopoly Facebook page or at stalbans@winningmoves.co.uk. Suggestions are invited until 11.59pm on March 25 2024.
