Local dance education specialist Sasha Brooke-Williams – aka ‘The Movement Teacher’ – is bringing together aspiring performers, parents, and industry professionals for a new event aimed at demystifying careers in the performing arts.
The Next Step is an evening designed to help young people navigate the many routes into professional training and work in the theatre industry. Whether a student dreams of performing on stage, working behind the scenes, or pursuing a creative or teaching role, this event offers a wealth of information to support those ambitions.
Having spent years teaching as well as delivering talks and career advice in schools and colleges, Sasha has curated a panel of expert speakers who will share their experience and offer practical advice on what comes after school or college — from choosing the right training path to understanding course options, auditions, applications and give real insight into the world of work in this sector.
“The training options can feel overwhelming,” says Sasha. “The goal of The Next Step is to provide clarity, encourage informed choices, and celebrate the variety of roles available in this rich and rewarding sector. It’s also about bringing together a local community of performers, creatives, and educators.”
The event will feature a Q&A session with the panel, discussions on the differences between training routes — including universities, conservatoires, and foundation courses — and guidance on finding the right fit based on individual goals and interests. Attendees will also have the chance to meet representatives from local arts organisations and extracurricular training providers.

The Next Step would suit pupils of Year 9 upwards and is a not-for-profit event taking place at St Columba’s College on Wednesday July 2 from 6-9pm.
