Members of St Albans district Scouting and Guides Associations marched through the city centre as part of their annual St George’s Day Parade – celebrating Scouting in all its forms.
Youngsters from Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Rainbows, Brownies and Guides met outside the Civic Centre before making their way through the vintage market in St Peter’s Street and Market Place, then down Holywell Hill to the field opposite Westminster Lodge.
Over 500 young people and adult volunteers took part in the event, renewing their Scout Promise in a ceremony at Verulamium Park, led by representatives from each section.
Alex Hamilton-Bray, District Lead Volunteer for St Albans Scouts said: “We are delighted to continue the Scout Tradition of celebrating St George’s Day with a parade through St Albans and a ceremony in Verulamium Park. It was great to see so many young people in attendance to renew our promise and celebrate the adult volunteers which allow scouting to happen week to week.
“Scouting is more relevant for young people than ever before – giving young people the opportunity to get out in nature, develop leadership skills and self belief. It was
great to show Scouting to our wider St Albans community.”
