Walkers using the River Ver trail between Cottonmill Lane and Sopwell Mill open space cannot fail to have noticed how it had eroded away and collapsed into the river.
Using funding from the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, SADC launched a £18,000 project to restore the crumbling path, including removing the existing wooden structure and steps.
In its place a new path and retaining wall were constructed, with the work completed in a matter of days rather than the three weeks anticipated.
Cllr Helen Campbell, lead councillor for public realm, paid a visit to the trail to inspect the new footpath: “This is a peaceful and scenic spot on the edge of the city centre and it is no wonder that it is hugely popular among dog owners and walkers.
“It also provides a convenient route for residents living nearby and the Cottonmill allotment holders.
“I am delighted with the work that has been done to restore the path and pleased that it has now been re-opened.
“I think this shows our commitment to providing our residents with excellent footpaths and walking routes that they can use for fresh air and exercise or just to get around the city.”
