The grounds of Oaklands College’s Smallford campus have become the third parkrun location in St Albans – with the first event taking place last Saturday.
More than 250 runners, walkers and volunteers took park in the first 5K parkrun with the free community event set to take place every week going forward.
Annie Brewster, the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, joined Andrew Slade, principal and chief executive of Oaklands College, to launch the new parkrun.
Simon Foden, head of commercial at Oaklands College, said: “Seeing so many people come together for our inaugural parkrun event was truly inspiring. The commitment of our volunteers and the enthusiasm of our participants sets the stage for a thriving parkrun tradition here at Oaklands, which is amazing for our growing community.”
The parkrun starts in front of the Mansion House path and includes two laps of where the sports fields are located. The course is run on a mix of grass, gravel paths, permanent paths and trail paths.
The event will take place every Saturday at 9am, making the campus the third location in St Albans alongside Jersey Park and Verulamium Park.
