The new headteacher set to take over from Annie Thomson at The Marlborough Science Academy has been announced.
Caroline Legg – currently the headteacher of The Beaconsfield School, a non-selective secondary school in Buckinghamshire – will step into the role in September.
The appointment follows a rigorous selection process and interviews, as chair of governors at TMSA, Jane Walker-Smith, explained: “The selection panel unanimously agreed that Mrs Legg was the outstanding candidate to be our new headteacher from September.
“She has excellent experience of leading a secondary school, shares our school values and ethos and is also an Ofsted inspector. She is fully committed to providing the best possible education for our students, as well as to the continued development and success of our school, building on the amazing legacy Ms Thomson has created, who of course will be very much missed.”
She added that she hoped Mrs Legg would receive the full support of the school community as she leads Marlborough into its next chapter, building on the strong leadership and foundations Ms Thomson has created.
Before joining The Beaconsfield School in September 2021 as deputy head, Mrs Legg was assistant principal at the Goffs Academy in Cheshunt. She did her PGCE at the University of Cambridge before completing a Master’s in education at the University of Nottingham.
During her 22 years as headteacher, Ms Thomson and her team have led the school through six Ofsted inspections, three different frameworks and the transition to academy status in 2012.
