New art gallery opens in St Albans

After six years running Vache Bleue memorabilia store and gallery in The Maltings Shopping Centre, art expert Olesya Bean has launched her own independent venture: Olesya Contemporary Art Gallery (OCA Gallery) – based in the former Rennie Grove Peace Hospice charity shop in Victoria Street.

The new store officially opens its doors on Saturday following a VIP preview on Thursday evening.

Olesya explained: “This gallery is more than just a business—it is deeply personal to me. The name ‘OCA’ is inspired by and combines elements of both my parents’ names, making it a tribute to the people who have supported and inspired me throughout my life. The gallery’s butterfly logo was inspired by Salvador Dalí’s famous Papillon Collection, symbolising transformation, creativity, and the freedom that art brings to our lives.

“At OCA Gallery, I am proud to work with established artists from around the world while remaining passionately committed to supporting new and emerging talent. The art world can often be challenging and intimidating for artists starting their careers, and I believe they deserve opportunities to be seen, appreciated, and encouraged.

“To help achieve this, I have introduced a unique initiative called ‘Rent an Easel’. This scheme allows up-and-coming artists to showcase their work in a professional gallery setting. At the end of each exhibition week, we celebrate their achievements with a special event attended by family, friends, art lovers, and members of the local community. It is an opportunity not only to exhibit artwork but also to build confidence, connections, and lasting memories.

“OCA Gallery will be much more than an exhibition space. We will host artist talks, workshops, and community events, creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with art. Building strong relationships with our local community is at the heart of everything we do, and I am excited to create a welcoming space where creativity can flourish.

In addition to exhibitions and events, OCA Gallery also offers art consultation services, memorabilia consultation services and professional framing services.
