Garden Fields Cricket Club – better known as the Men of Fields (MOF) – are undertaking their sixth 100km walk along the Northumberland Coastal Path for three days in June as part of their latest fundraising efforts – having already raised in excess of £200K over the last 10 years.
The MoFs are a collection of local dads obsessed with charity fundraising. They run many such events, the biggest of which is their bi-annual charity walk and in 2022 they won the St Albans District Chamber of Commerce’s Michael Weaver Award for Community Impact for their efforts.
This year they will be walking again for mental health charity Youth Talk, which provides free one-to-one counselling support for 13 to 25-year-olds from St Albans and the surrounding areas.
Trevor Merriden, one of the team of fundraisers said: “It is a delight to again be fundraising for Youth Talk this year. They do an incredible job providing free, independent counselling to young people. It’s fantastic to be involved – and we really need the public’s support to help us reach this year’s £30,000 target!”
Jim Lewis from Youth Talk added: “Youth Talk is absolutely thrilled to be the chosen charity of the Men of Fields walking challenge again. Every step they take helps us provide free counselling support to young people in St Albans, Harpenden and the surrounding areas. In setting their target high, MoF have an ambition to raise enough sponsorship to provide 600 one-to-one counselling sessions.”
