Influencer Inspector Organ, who claims to have made it his life’s work to play every pipe organ in existence or die trying, made an impromptu visit to St Albans Cathedral last week.
The social media sensation, who has more than 45.000 followers on Instagram, 337.9K TikTok likes and 240K YouTube followers, describes himself as: “Unauthorised. Untrained. Unstoppable” in his unusual quest.
His unusual blend of history, music and mischief involves checking out pipe organs in churches and cathedrals across the UK, often performing hilarious raps and song covers to highlight the various locations’ architecture, interesting features and other quirks.
St Albans Cathedral’s own organ was built in 1962 by Harrison & Harrison of Durham to a design by Peter Hurford (then Master of the Music) and Ralph Downes. It contains more than 4,500 pipes, spread across keyboards (manuals) and pedals. At the time it was revolutionary as it was the first cathedral instrument to be voiced and built on neo-classical lines.
