In pictures: through the barricades at Jubilee Square

Inside Jubilee Square...

The metal fencing is finally down at St Albans’ centrepiece development of Jubilee Square, allowing public access to the site for the first time.

The development once known as CCOS (City Centre Opportunity Site) South should have been completed in October 2022, but saw various delays which kept pushing the handover by construction company Morgan Sindell ever forwards.

As the only locally-based media, the St Albans Times was on the scene as the barriers were removed, and we took a walk around the space to capture these photos, which include the newly restored Quakers Garden.

Against expectations, it was much less claustrophobic than it looked from Victoria Street, and the walkway through was airy and spacious. We took a peek inside some of the commercial buildings, which hopefully won’t remain empty for long as they were massive!

The official handover ceremony takes place next week, at which time we will take a tour inside.
