It was a proud day for students, staff and parents of St Albans School as 61 per cent of all results achieved were grades 8-9 and 80 per cent of all pupil results were graded 7-9.
More than half of the year group gained at least six grades between 8-9.
The school also reports that 27 students achieved at least 10 Grade 8s and 9s with 27 per cent of the cohort securing at least nine Grade 8s and/0r 9s. A further 36 per cent of the cohort achieved at least eight Grade 8s and/or 9s. Two pupils achieved 12 8 and 9 grades across all of their subjects, and eight pupils achieved 11 8 and 9 grades across all subjects. The top performing subject this year was maths where 86 per cent of the cohort achieved a Grade 8 or 9.
Headmaster Joe Silvester said: “Our students really deserve every bit of their incredible success. Many have achieved top grades and should be immensely proud of themselves. They have studied hard and have put every ounce of focus and determination in to achieving the very best version of themselves, and that is to be celebrated.
“Likewise, from a country-wide perspective, despite having thought to be among the worst affected by the Covid pandemic, our Year 11 students have really proven great resilience and determination and bounced back with their GCSE results this year. Well done to all.”
