Students were locked in their classrooms as emergency services attended a major incident on the same day Ofsted inspectors were due to arrive.
The incident occurred this morning at Marlborough Science Academy in St Albans, shortly after students arrived for the day.
According to a source, the school was locked down while emergency services – including an air ambulance – were on site and an injured boy was taken to hospital.
It is not known whether Ofsted inspectors remained on site during the incident.
A Herts police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 8.40am today (1 November), to report a concern for welfare of a boy at the Marlborough Science Academy on Watling Street, St Albans. Officers along with the ambulance service attended the scene. The boy has been taken to hospital.”
