The call has gone out to recruit a new volunteer to play a vital role in running Scouting in the St Albans district.
A new chair is being sought for the board of trustees to help provide leadership to the non-uniformed side of local Scouting.
This is an ideal position for someone who would like to support Scouting and make a difference but is unable to commit to a regular weekly commitment.
District commissioner Annette Payne said: “Every year we help over 2,000 young people across St Albans enjoy new adventures; to experience the outdoors; interact with others and make new friends; gain confidence and
have the opportunity to reach their full potential. And it’s not just young people who can get involved!
“Alongside our youth members we have hundreds of adult volunteers enjoying supporting Scouting in a wide variety of different roles.
“This is a rewarding role working as part of a well-established, sociable and fun team of rrustees who bring a wide variety of skills and experience to the district.”
The board of trustees in St Albans has members drawn from a variety of different backgrounds and experiences, some of whom hold other Scouting roles, and plays a vital role in the running of the district.
The ideal candidate will have good management skills, or be looking to enhance their current skillset, and an active interest or previous experience of Scouting is a plus but certainly not essential.
Trustee of St Albans District Scouts David Barker said: “Scouting relies on the tremendous team of adult volunteers who provide their skill, expertise and valuable time to ensure that we continue to offer our local young people amazing experiences and opportunities. Leaders, helpers, supporters, managers, administrative volunteers all have a vital role to play. I really enjoy working with my fellow trustees and it’s great to be giving back something to an organisation that has given so much to me.
“Scouting has never been needed more and this interesting and flexible voluntary role will play an important part in ensuring that Scouting continues to thrive across the district.”
