Discover the art of unravelling at gallery’s new exhibition

Carrie Cook's The Art of Unravelling is at the Collective Gallery.

A new exhibition will be exploring themes of tension, anxiety, repair and connection through the medium of textile art.

The Art of Unravelling is the first solo exhibition by Irish artist Carrie Cook, and can be seen at the Collective Gallery, 18 Holywell Hill, from February 26 to March 4 from 12 noon to 6pm daily.

Carrie will share woven tapestries and embroidered artworks through which she has developed both her technical skills and her sense of self.

She said: “The work is deeply personal, exploring how the messages we are surrounded by weave themselves into our psyche throughout our lives.

“Striving to live up to expectations left me anxious and disconnected but through a process of gentle unravelling I have learnt to access inner kindness and wisdom.

“Working with textiles was a way for me to slow down, to connect with myself and my creativity.”

Carrie was educated at Handarbetets Vänner School in Stockholm where she studied textile crafts for three years. During this time she specialised in weaving, dying and embroidery techniques, learning hand to hand from master craftspeople.

Now living in St Albans she continues to develop her practice as an art weaver and textile designer.

During the exhibition week Carrie will be offering weaving demonstrations on her Swedish floor loom and inviting visitors to take a few moments to explore materials and release perfectionism through play.
