The community of St Columba’s College rallied round to raise a staggering £27,000 at their annual festive fayre – the biggest amount ever recorded.
Headmaster Karl Guest said simply that he was “lost for words” after the total was tallied.
The funds raised will drive the development of school sports facilities and the creation of a Forest School, directly benefiting the young minds that make St Columba’s College so special.
In the spirit of giving back, the college has also chosen to support various charities close to their hearts:
- CAFOD: A long-standing partner, donations will aid the World Food Crisis Appeal, offering practical help to those in need, irrespective of religion or culture.
- Youth At the Margins and Iconhope: Continuing a tradition of supporting Brothers of the Sacred Heart Charities, the college will contribute to sister schools in Haiti and the Philippines through these projects.
- The British Heart Foundation: In memory of former meadmaster David Buxton, funds will support the foundation’s crucial work.
- Rays of Sunshine: Bringing joy to seriously ill children aged three to 18 by granting wishes and providing ongoing support in hospitals.
A St Columba’s spokesperson said: “This achievement underscores the unwavering support for our beloved college and emphasises the event’s significance in our annual calendar.
“A massive ‘thank you’ seems insufficient to express our gratitude, but sincere appreciation goes out to each member of the Columban community for contributing to this remarkable success.”
