These are the scenes after a recovery truck crashed into the St Peter’s Street roundabout earlier this afternoon.

Tailbacks are reported on all roads into the city centre, including Hatfield Road, High Street and Catherine Street.

St Albans police have said: “There is currently traffic congestion in St Albans city centre due to a lorry which has got stuck in St Peter’s Street. Road closures are in place while we deal with the incident.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route.”
