Award-winning St Albans-based rock, concert and music photographer Neil Lupin brought his talents to the stages of the Pioneer Club to capture these powerful images of last Saturday’s Escape to the City all-dayer.
Neil’s portfolio is an A-Z of music icons including the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper, Take That, Slash, KISS, Metallica, Oasis, Cher, Madonna, Tony Bennett, Ennio Morricone, Foo Fighters and so many more besides.
He was the first person to win the So.Co. Music Photographer of the Year Awards accolade in 2023, and his images regularly grace the pages of national newspapers and magazines, so we are beyond excited to feature his work in the St Albans Times.
Sponsored by EYES on St Albans, Escape to the City was organised by local music fan and promoter James Berrecloth, and saw 13 alternative acts across two stages, carefully selected from the St Albans and London music scene.
James said: “One major highlight for me was having Neil Lupin, a world class concert photographer, photograph the event. Neil just happens to live in St Albans and volunteered to help. Amazing!!”
He added: “I really can’t believe we did it!! The event was a real success. All the acts were just fabulous, the feedback from the audience was exceptional and the day went like clockwork. I have to thank all the support on the day, I couldn’t have done it without them. Massive shout out to the PioneerClub and their sound engineers. The only problem now is that people are calling on me to do it again!!”
The event featured a packed line-up of acts teetering on the edge of smashing into the big time, so watch out for the likes of Picture Parlour, lilo, Kodi, Bridget., Retropussy, Kynsy and Dear Tash on the bill for some of the music industry’s biggest events in the months to come.
The Pioneer Club’s event manager Jon Prayer added: “It’s been great for Pioneer to put on this event, to have such an incredible variety of bands come through our doors in one day is amazing. I’d like to thank all the team behind the scenes for making it happen. It’s been great working with Jimmy on this and I look forward to planning the next event with him!”
