Money received from the producers of blockbuster movie Wonka will be used to improve Verulamium Park.
SADC was awarded £41K as part of an agreement to allow filming for the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel in the flagship green space.
Of this sum, £25K has been ringfenced for park improvements, together with other cash received for events including Comedy Garden and Pub in the Park, bringing the total to around £35K.
The council has confirmed the money will not be used for routine maintenance, but for improvements currently being considered as part of a park action plan.
An SADC spokesperson said: “We are currently drawing up a Green Spaces Action Plan for Verulamium Park with the support of Hertfordshire Countryside Management Service.
“A draft plan for the years 2024 to 2029 is currently out for consultation. Nearby residents’ associations as well as community groups including the Ver Valley Society have been asked for their views.
“We have also discussed the proposals with the Verulamium Park Consultative Forum which meets twice a year.
“All feedback will be analysed when the consultation period ends early next year and the plan finalised.
“The draft plan includes a range of proposed improvements including resurfacing some footpaths, planting vegetation for the benefit of wildlife, landscaping and enhanced signage.
“The money received from the Wonka filming and Pub in the Park has been set aside to help pay for the improvements that are agreed.”
