An innovative new Italian delicatessen and wine bar is moving into Holywell Hill.
Baruccio is taking over the former Headcase barbers premises at no 12, and opening its doors next month.
The eatery has two sides to its offering: during the day it will offer locally roasted speciality coffee, sweet treats and gourmet focaccia sandwiches; then on Thursday to Saturday evenings it will transform into a cozy neighbourhood wine bar with a regularly changing blackboard menu of Italian focused seasonal platters.
Its wine list will feature a range of bottles from small Italian producers who champion sustainable and ethical practices in their vineyards.
The store will offer a curated selected of artisanal pasta, cheese, charcuterie, olive oil, Italian confectionary and other pantry essentials.
Owner Gabriele Bertone explained: “Baruccio’s appeal goes beyond just shopping – it’s also an informal eatery where guests can relax with a cup of barista-grade coffee, share a glass of wine with friends, or enjoy a platter of cheese or charcuterie.
“What sets Baruccio apart is its commitment to simplicity and quality. With only a tiny kitchenette on-site, Baruccio focuses on serving fresh, seasonal food from a selection of carefully picked suppliers – think oysters, salads, gnocchi, focaccia and other Italian delights.
“This modern approach reimagines the classic Italian deli concept, blending a funky, glamourised vibe with an accessible, relaxed atmosphere.
“Baruccio’s aim is to offer St Albans an elevated yet laid-back food and wine experience that captures the essence of Italy’s rich culinary tradition.”
The store will also function as an online retailer, allowing customers to shop from home.
