The headmaster of St Albans independent school St Columba’s College has praised this year’s A level cohort for their results.
The 2025 cohort have exceeded last year’s record breaking figures, increasing the percentage of entries achieving A*-A grades to 41.3 per cent.
To break that down, 17/77 (22 per cent) of students received at least one A*, 45/77 (58 per cent) received at least one A, 20/77 (26 per cent) received three As or better.
Leavers will enter a wide variety of subject areas in many different locations, including the USA. In the new academic year, Columbans will be studying architecture, computer science, history, aeronautical engineering, philosophy, geography, law and urban planning, while others have secured competitive places on apprenticeship schemes.
Some of the most notable achievers are: Felix, with A* grades in mathematics, further mathematics and physics, and an A in chemistry, who will be studying mathematics with economics at University College London; Edward, with A* grades in biology and French and an A in cChemistry, who will be studying medicine at the University of Nottingham; and Rocco, with A* grades in mathematics and further mathematics, an A in biology and a B in chemistry, which has secured him a place at the University of Bath to read mathematics.
Meanwhile, Savannah received A grades in drama, English literature and psychology, and will proceed to Birmingham to read English literature. Likewise, deputy head girl, Katja, has scored a trilogy of A grades in mathematics,further mathematics and Economics and will commence a degree in mathematics and economics at the University of Nottingham.
Headteacher Karl Guest said: “I am filled with pride to see the tremendous successes of our young people, and yet another record-breaking year for St Columba’s College. These students and their teachers have worked so hard to achieve these outstanding results and I am proud to say this is what first-rate, holistic education looks like: happy and successful students heading towards their bright futures.”
