An amateur athlete who aims to complete a triathlon in all 78 UK cities over 2024 raising money for three charities close to his heart has come to St Albans.
Sales director Alex Davis, who works for national IT and cyber security firm Equate Group, started off his epic mission in Oxford on April 15.
Today he arrived at St Albans’ Westminster Lodge, where he completed his latest triathlon, cycling, swimming and running in succession at the sports centre.
He is hoping to raise a total of £15,000 for National Paralympic Heritage Trust, Auto Raise and Oxford Hospital Charity after completing a total of 117km swimming, 3,120 cycling and 780km running over the course of nine months.
Alex said: “Why 78 triathlons in nine months? Why not? Sport is a shared experience and I know it’s not going to be straightforward with the weather, health and logistics but I’m supported by an amazing family at home, colleagues, customers and my business networking groups around the UK who will be with me all the way. I’ll be sharing the challenge in person and online. The funds raised will be going to very worthy charities so please give generously.”
Following his visit to St Albans he added: “The night before my St Albans triathlon, I fuelled-up with a hearty serving of macaroni cheese lovingly prepared by my wife. The next morning kicked off at Westminster Lodge swimming pool, where the atmosphere was refreshing and jovial, especially on St George’s Day.
“After completing the swim, I embarked on a cycling leg under a light drizzle, traversing the charming town and lovely countryside. The ensuing run proved equally challenging and gratifying, passing by the grand cathedral and serene lake.
“To sustain me through the event, I relied on a marmalade bagel crafted from my mum’s cherished recipe. Though there was no bear in site, the thought of the late Queen would have loved the sandwich. As I bid farewell to St Albans, I couldn’t help but look back with fond memories of this leg of the challenge and look forward to the next city on my triathlon journey.”
