A St Albans care home resident is marking a milestone birthday today.
Marjorie Clarke was born on August 2 1924, a month which also saw the debut of comic strip Little Orphan Annie, Denmark hosting the second World Scout Jamboree, and the death of the novelist Joseph Conrad.
A resident of Alban Manor since March, Marjorie was born in Edgware, and married her husband Albert just after the end of the Second World War. They lived in London before moving to Borehamwood and then retired to Clacton.
She was widowed in 2006, but continued living in Clacton until she moved into Alban Manor. Marjorie has four children, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A spokesperson for Alban Manor said: “Marjorie always has a smile on her face, delights everyone with her beautiful voice. She has a very joyful personality and enjoys singing, listening to music, and watching TV.
“She loves football and is a big fan of Arsenal and wouldn’t miss any of their games. She also has a sweet tooth and her favourite pudding is apple pie with custard and a cup of tea. Marjorie loves spending time with her family and enjoys the company of the other residents.”
