Experienced centre back Remi Sutton is the first new summer signing for St Albans City as manager Gary McCann rebuilds for the 2026-27 season, writes Jess Unwin.
The 34-year-old, who joins Saints from fellow Isthmian League Premier Division side Cray Wanderers, has previously played for AFC Hornchurch, Basildon United, Thurrock, Enfield Town, Romford and Cheshunt.
He won the FA Trophy with Hornchurch during 2020-21 and the FA Vase with Romford during 2023-24, when he was on loan from the Urchins.
After signing for St Albans, Sutton told the club’s podcast Saints and the City: “It’s just nice to get it done. It’s a good club, a big club so I was excited to just get it done and get in the building. Ultimately, you want to win games, be near the top end of the table – winning titles. That’s what the club wants to do and I want to do.”
St Albans have already persuaded eight players who featured during the 2025-26 campaign to re-sign for next season. They are captain Zane Banton, Alex Dyer, Kieran Petrie, Jack James, Lewis Page, Sam Donkin, Haziz Kone and Adrian Mariappa.
City’s aim will be to do much, much better than in the 2025-26 season, which saw them finish 11th in the table and 22 points short of the promotion play-off places.
