Garden Fields School’s six-a-side team are on their way to Wembley!
The winners of February’s St Albans City FC Tournament took part in the Home Counties regional finals of the National League Trust six-a-side competition.
Despite playing against strong sides Garden Fields reached the final and progressed to the Southern Regional Finals at National League South club, Slough Town.
Garden Fields competed against primary school teams representing National League Clubs Woking and Wealdstone and National League South clubs Torquay, Chelmsford and Maidstone United.
Many of the group games were close but Garden Fields progressed to the semi-finals where they beat Torquay. After a tense start in the final against Maidstone United, Garden Fields scored twice but were pegged back by a Maidstone goal in the final minute of the game which led to a nail-biting finish for their enthusiastic supporters. It was a great win for a school who have progressed from the St Albans City tournament to the finals three years in a row and a tribute to their manager James Berman.
They will now represent St Albans City at Wembley as part of the lead up to the National League Play-offs on June 1.
