Thirty-five-year-old journeyman striker Inih Effiong is the ninth confirmed addition to the Saints squad for the upcoming new season.
Effiong returns to Clarence Park after starting his career with St Albans City at the tender age 17 when the then manager Steve Castle gave him his first chance.
After scoring 15 goals in his break-out second spell with City in 2010-11, he played for a plethora of teams, including Hitchin Town, Chesham, Hayes & Yeading, Dunstable, Biggleswade Town, Barrow, Woking, Ross County, Barnet, Stevenage, Dagenham & Redbridge and Braintree.
Most recently, in February this year, he joined National League side Eastleigh on a short-term deal, playing 11 games (starting nine of them) and scoring once.
Saints will want to take advantage of his experience but also his physical strength, and his ability to bring other players into the game with his hold-up play.
He told the club’s podcast, Saints and the City: “I’m very aggressive up front and I like to score goals.”
- City’s first league game has been confirmed for Saturday August 8 against Chatham, kick-off at 3pm.
