Theo has landed at EYES on St Albans – and it isn’t here to whisper…

EYES on Theo

There are glasses that do a perfectly respectable job of sitting on your face. And then there are glasses that seem to enter the room a fraction before you do.

Theo is very much in the second camp.

The Belgian eyewear brand has arrived at EYES on St Albans, bringing with it colour, fabulous acetate, beautiful construction and just enough European swagger to make things interesting.

Which, around here, is very much our sort of thing.

If Kirk & Kirk gives us brilliant British colour, Moscot brings its New York heritage and JL Spex does quiet luxury with a rebellious edge, Theo turns the volume knob a little further to the right.

Not necessarily enormous. Not necessarily outrageous.

Just confident.

Theo is based in Antwerp and the collection plays brilliantly with colour, shape and combinations that
you simply don’t tend to find on the average optician’s wall. There are rich acetates, clever mixes of
acetate and metal, transparent colour, unexpected pairings and frames that can be playful without
tipping over into fancy dress.

And underneath all of that personality is something rather important. They’re properly made.

Because however fabulous a frame looks, it still has to spend rather a lot of time sitting on your face.

The materials need to feel good, the construction needs to be right and the whole thing needs to stand up to real life.

We’re quite fussy about that at EYES. Actually, very fussy.

The other thing Theo does particularly well is shape.

Round, square, rectangular, panto, oval, cat-eye and all sorts of interesting variations in between mean there is plenty for Jez to play with when it comes to finding the frame that actually works for you.

And that bit matters.

Choosing statement eyewear isn’t about locating the loudest pair in the shop and hoping for the best.

A brilliant frame works with your face, your colouring, your proportions and, crucially, your personality.

The right pair can be colourful without wearing you. Bold without becoming a costume. Unusual without making you feel as though you’ve borrowed somebody else’s glasses.

That’s where having Jez around becomes particularly useful.

As EYES’ eyewear stylist and resident frame obsessive, he’s very good at spotting the pair you might walk straight past and getting you to put them on.

Occasionally this is accompanied by the words, “Trust me.”

Annoyingly, he’s right rather a lot.

Theo gives him even more to work with.

It also gives the EYES collection another distinct personality. Because we don’t want a wall of glasses

that all say roughly the same thing in slightly different shades of brown.

We want choices.

Quiet ones. Colourful ones. Architectural ones. Classic ones. Rebellious ones.

And now, some rather fabulous Belgian ones too.

The new Theo collection is available now at EYES on St Albans in Marshalswick.

Come and try some on.

You may discover your face has been waiting for a little more volume.
