ShadeShift

Seeing colour differently – EYES on St Albans introduces ShadeShift

If there’s one thing we all know well, it’s that the weather likes to keep us guessing.
Bright sunshine on the school run (we live in hope). Cloud cover by lunchtime. Glare sneaking in just as you’re driving home. Which is why the team at EYES on St Albans have been quietly working on something new – alongside everything else they’ve had going on.
Because apparently launching JL Spex, keeping shelves full of fabulous frames, delivering hugs, great eyesight, and a steady soundtrack of rock’n’roll wasn’t quite enough.
The latest addition to the EYES family is called ShadeShift.
ShadeShift lenses are clear indoors and then gently (but quickly) change to colour when you step outside, before shifting back to clear again once you’re back inside.
No swapping glasses. No rummaging in bags. Just lenses that adapt as the light changes throughout the day.
“We’ve offered colour-changing lenses for years,” says Jez at EYES on St Albans.
“They’re brilliant for lots of people. And while we were busy with JL Spex and everything else that goes on here, we realised there was space to do this in a more EYES way – with more choice and less jargon.”
There are now 22 different ShadeShift colours to choose from, each one moving from completely clear to colour and back again in seconds. From subtle everyday tones to bolder looks, it means your lenses can suit your style as well as your sight.
And for those who prefer dedicated sunglasses, EYES has expanded things even further. There are now over 40 tint colours available, along with a wide selection of mirrored lenses in different colour combinations. Prescription sunglasses, done properly – and with plenty of personality.
Of course, this is still EYES, so quality hasn’t taken a back seat. ShadeShift lenses are available across single vision and varifocal prescriptions, and every pair comes with the same premium coatings customers expect. Protection from UV, reduced glare, and lenses designed to cope with everyday life all come as standard.
Importantly, ShadeShift doesn’t replace what’s already on offer. EYES on St Albans remains an Essilor Expert practice, continuing to provide advanced Varilux varifocal
lenses and Transitions lenses for those who prefer these options. ShadeShift simply adds another choice to the mix.
“It’s about matching lenses to real lives,” Jez explains. “Popping in and out of shops, walking into town, driving when the sun’s low – people don’t live in one lighting condition all day. ShadeShift just gets on with adapting, so you don’t have to think about it.”
If the name sounds a little rock’n’roll, that’s no accident. At EYES, music is always playing and there’s a shared appreciation for things that work hard behind the scenes. ShadeShift is a bit like a roadie – not always noticed, but everything works better because it’s there.
You’ll also start hearing ShadeShift popping up on Mix 92.6, as EYES continues its long-standing support of local radio and community voices.
Because backing independent, local organisations is just as important as backing independent eyewear – especially when they’re keeping us up to date with the weather!
ShadeShift lenses are now available exclusively at EYES on St Albans in Marshalswick. If you’re curious, the best way to understand them is to see them in action – and maybe have a bit of fun choosing your colour along the way.
Because in St Albans, the weather will always do its thing. ShadeShift just helps you see through it.
