Eyes on blue notes: MOSCOT’s new season lands in St Albans

EYES on MOSCOT

There are certain signs that autumn has arrived in St Albans. The leaves start turning, knitwear reappears, someone mentions putting the heating on, and the colours in our wardrobes begin getting altogether richer.

This year, though, autumn isn’t all brown, burgundy and black.

Blue is having a moment.

British Vogue has picked out navy, powder blue and brighter ‘power blue’ among 2026’s key colour stories, with navy particularly prominent across the autumn/winter catwalks.

Which makes the arrival of MOSCOT’s new autumn/winter collection at EYES on St Albans rather well timed.

The New York eyewear brand has been making spectacles for more than a century, with five generations of the MOSCOT family behind its particular combination of optical know-how and Lower East Side attitude.

Its Fall 2026 collection, or autumn/winter on this side of the Atlantic, continues that tradition with new shapes, familiar confidence and some rather lovely new blues.

The BISHEART, DIBBIK and MINYAN all appear in navy, the LIKTIG comes in a deep Ink, and even the rather more luxurious SHMECKEL gets the blue treatment.

It’s a good colour for glasses because it does something without necessarily shouting about it. Deep blue can work much like black, but with a little more softness. It sits happily alongside the browns, greys, denim, tailoring and knitwear that tend to reappear at this time of year, while giving the face more colour than a very dark frame can.

And that fits rather neatly with the wider mood in fashion this autumn.

There’s plenty of individuality around for A/W26, alongside a return to pieces with longevity: good coats, tailoring, useful knitwear and familiar shapes worn in more interesting ways. Eyewear sits happily in that territory too. A frame can be classic without being boring, colourful without taking over your face, or just different enough to make you wonder why you always bought black before.

Of course, buying glasses because navy happens to be fashionable would be a slightly bonkers way to choose something you may wear every day for the next few years.

That’s where Jez comes in.

Before opening EYES on St Albans, Jez worked for MOSCOT in Soho, and after more than 40 years in eyewear he has developed a fairly formidable eye for what works on a person.

He’s very good at looking past the frame on the shelf and seeing what happens when it’s actually on you.

Shape, colour, proportion, personality, what you wear and how you want to feel in your glasses all matter rather more than whether a particular shade happens to be having a fashion moment.

So if your hand normally heads straight for black or tortoiseshell, Jez may well hand you the blue pair too. If you always choose something discreet, he might suggest trying the one you’d never have picked for yourself. And if something fashionable simply doesn’t suit you, he’ll tell you that as well.

Because the point isn’t to look like everyone else this autumn. It’s to find the frame that looks right on you.

The new MOSCOT autumn/winter 2026 collection is now at EYES on St Albans in Marshalswick, with plenty of new shapes and those rather lovely new blues ready to try on.

Pop in, let Jez loose on the frame boards, and see what happens.

No catwalk required. Although a lap of The Quadrant in a fabulous coat is entirely optional.

Spex, hugs and rock’n’roll.
