10 from 50: Emma Bustamante

Emma Bustamante, owner of Cositas.

We ask a different figure from the local community to choose 10 questions to answer from a list of 50. This time: retailer Emma Bustamante from the ever-popular Cositas on Holywell Hill.

Who is your favourite St Albans musician or band?

Easy! Jez who plays the saxophone by the Cathedral. I love listening to him play! I haven’t had a party since I was 12, but if I did I’d definitely want it to be Jez on the sax.

How often do you check your phone?

I was going to say that I check it way too much, but really I don’t think that’s true. I’m very productive with my phone usage, I use it for work mainly, but raising three kids alone you can bet there’s always one of them who’s calling or texting. And lately I’ve started playing games on my phone which I love. And I use my phone to listen to podcasts and to do my meditation, so actually I do feel like I’m in control of it despite being on it a lot!

What items do you always carry with you?

A dog poo bag, a lip balm, phone and keys.

What is your favourite single item of clothing? Definitely my eagle necklace! It’s so me but is a cheapo and I’m on my 10th now. One day I’d love to get it made out of good materials.

Emma's favourite eagle necklace.

Have you ever had a nickname?

My best friend used to call me Smiler but then my boyfriend at the time weirdly decided to nickname his female friend Smiler too and it put me right off it!

What TV did you watch as a child

The Waltons, David The Gnome, The Wide Awake Club. We weren’t allowed to watch Grange Hill or EastEnders! Ha ha!

Have you ever asked for an autograph?

Oh my goodness, no! I’d either be too starstruck to talk or too embarrassed!

What’s your worst habit?

Ugh! It’s so annoying but I can’t stop biting my nails- even at this ripe old age I still nibble away!

When have you been most scared?

Oh that would be that time when I was held up in an armed robbery when I was 18 working in an off licence in Bushey. It was horrible.

Where would be your preferred place locally to get married?

Well I actually did get married at St Michael’s Manor 20 years ago. And I got divorced two years later ha ha! It was beautiful though and I think it’s the perfect intimate wedding venue.
