We ask a different figure from the local community to choose 10 questions to answer from a list of 50. This week: Carol Morton, chair of the Friends of Fleetville Junior School.
Where do you most like to have a picnic in St Albans? – Clarence Park – it’s a perfect spot between town and Fleetville. It has a great open space, a play park for the kids, a café and more often than not I bump into friends! It’s a Victorian-era gem! And not forgetting it’s the home of St Albans City football team!
What’s the first thing you do after waking up in the morning?
Check my phone, obviously! As a parent there is usually some morning school WhatsApp dilemma! And I like to check in with the world to make sure there’s no major disaster that would make getting up pointless!
Were you well behaved at school?
100%! I was always well behaved and worked hard! I was organised and loved a highlighter – my notes were awesome! I loved being a prefect, taking pride in setting a positive example for others and supporting both staff and students.
Do you ever Google yourself? I don’t Google myself, mostly because I don’t have anything significant that’s worth seeing… and if there is anything I’d rather not to know!
What is your favourite single item of clothing?
I’d definitely have to go for something from my growing Scamp & Dude collection, and if I had to pick I’d chose one of their dresses I own – probably the new one I got for my birthday recently. So easy to wear, no zips/buttons, dress up or dress down – perfect for any occasion!
What are your preferred pizza toppings?
Pizza is my favourite so this is easy…pepperoni, red onion and my new favourite addition…a dash of hot honey sauce (available at The Fleetville Larder!)!
Dogs or cats?
I know it’s a surprise that I live in St Albans and don’t have either but I’d definitely choose a dog over a cat. I had a dog as a child and my own children are always asking for a dog! Maybe one day!
What was your first job?
My first job was a Saturday job at a local greengrocers selling fruit, veg and flowers. I shared it with my friend. One week I worked 8am to 12 noon, the next I worked 12 noon to 4pm. I got £2.50 an hour and a free lunch from the local bakers!
Where would be your preferred place locally to get married?
I actually got married in St Albans 12 years ago. Our service was at the beautiful St Peter’s Church, followed by a drinks reception at the restaurant formerly known as Kashu (now Veer Dhara) and our main reception was at the town hall (now St Albans Museum) with dinner catered by Andrei Lussmann of Lussmanns fame). It was a perfect day!
Where do you buy your coffee in St Albans?
The Fleetville Larder is where is buy most of my coffee in St Albans. It’s a real local coffee spot. I drop my youngest at school and usually head there straight away for a coffee. Most people know that I usually do most of my PTA work there – it’s a bit like my office!
