We ask a different figure from the local community to choose 10 questions to answer from a list of 50. This week: Bronwyn Sweeney, an observational comic whose musings on St Albans life have gone viral on Instagram.
Where do you walk when you want to think?
I like to stroll along the Alban Way to a nature reserve. No matter the season I find it calming.
Where do you most like to have a picnic in St Albans?
Clarence Park. I live close by but even if I didn’t, I’d still go there. I love that there’s two sides to choose from.
What’s the first thing you do after you’ve woken up in the morning?
Even though I know it’s so bad for me, I turn off my alarm and out of habit, open Instagram. Every week I say I’ll break the habit but I keep doing it.
What’s your worst habit?
Reading the comments on my Instagram videos then crying.
If you could travel back in time and offer your younger self some advice, what would it be?
Trust the timing of your life. It won’t always happen when you want or how you expect but if you’re patient life will surprise you in a good way.
What’s your favourite St Albans car park?
The Pioneer Club. Preferably after I’ve just finished hosting a comedy night there and I’m full of happy energy as I stare at the mural of The Zombies.
Where would be your preferred place locally to get married?
I’m not interested in marriage really, but I live near the St Albans Register Office and think if I ever did, it would be great to stroll over, get married without any faff and then walk to Dylans for a celebratory steak.
How long would you survive a zombie apocalypse? Minutes. I’d be the first to die either from a heart attack or doing something stupid like approaching an infected person to see if they’re OK.
If you had a time machine, what year would you choose to visit and why?
I would choose 2003. I had just moved to Rome for University. It was the best time of my life even though I was always broke, living on supermarket pasta, trying to learn the language and sharing a Nokia 3310 phone and bedroom in a dank flat that smelled of mothballs with my sister.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a novelist or a cool business woman working in a cool city. The second dream came true so now I just need to finish that novel…
