On Saturday May 2, 30 years to the day since it was incorporated, Highfield Park Trust celebrated its 30th anniversary with two early morning walks around the park.
The Sunrise Walk left the Visitor Centre at 5.30am and for those who needed a bit longer in bed, a second group left at 8am, with post-walk breakfasts laid on by the trust at the Visitor Centre.
Finance and administration officer Sarah Shah said: “It was great to welcome the two groups into the park so early on a Saturday morning. Both were very knowledgeable about the trust and it was lovely to hear their feedback. We are very grateful for everybody who attended, made donations and bought apple juice. In total we raised £400 and all the money will be ring fenced to support our current fundraiser, which is to restore the Mediterranean Garden.”
Park team leader Lee Allen added: “The park looked amazing in the early morning sunshine and credit should go to the whole team for the preparation of the route which totalled 3km in length. It was a great start to the day and I really enjoyed walking around with the two groups.”
The trust is holding a series of special events throughout the year, some of which are new to its programme. ‘Bubbles and Boule’ will take place on Saturday July 18 in the Mediterranean Garden, where you can learn how to play pétanque and enjoy a glass of bubbly. Tickets can be purchased from the Trust’s website, which also details all the upcoming events.
