Hundreds of classic cars, motorcycles and scooters packed out Harpenden Common last week for an annual celebration of 20th century motoring.
Classics on the Common brings together owners and enthusiasts for a much-loved charity fundraising event.
Organised by Rotary in Harpenden, this year’s beneficiaries included Empowering Kids in Kenya, Keech Hospice Care and Hertfordshire Scouts.
First held in 1994, Classics on the Common was the brainchild of classic car enthusiasts John Tibble, then landlord of the Carpenters Arms, and Peter Madden, a Harpenden resident and Metropolitan Police officer. The first year’s show attracted just 125 cars, but it has since grown to become one of the biggest mid-week classic car shows in Britain.
