Although extreme weather meant this year’s Harpenden Art on the Common took place on one instead of two days, that certainly didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of either visitors or exhibitors.
Artwork on sale from more than 30 local artists spanned a wide spectrum of genres from jewellery, ceramics, photography, woodwork, mosaics, textiles and hand-made greetings cards as well as large wall paintings.
For the first time, the event featured live music from Richard Hurford Trio and Guests and the Magic Voices Choir.
This year’s main sponsor was Artscape in Coldharbour Lane, Harpenden, who offer extensive range of art and craft materials, stationary products and an online framing service, and all proceeds from exhibitor pitch fees and a percentage of sales commission on all art sold goes to Cancer Research UK.
Organiser Liz Thompson said: “The weather certainly gave us some challenges and kept us busy and the AOTC team were overjoyed for artists and visitors alike that the event went ahead. It proved to be a resounding success with the highest number of visitors so far although of course we very much missed those artists who were unable to exhibit. We can’t wait to welcome everyone again next year with our full show of over 70 artists across two days!”
