The charity Playpark Action Rothamsted Committee (PARC) has donated more than £2,000 to St Albans’ Pioneer Club.
PARC was formed in September 2018 with the aim of raising funds for a new play area in Rothamsted Park, and worked closely with Harpenden Town Council to raise a large amount of money thanks to the generosity of the local community and many organisations, with the play park opened in July 2021.
Looking for its next project, the charity found that many people wanted to see the deteriorated Rothamsted skatepark replaced with a new facility, and once again started raising runds.
Unfortunately after costs for the project soared, Harpenden Town Council decided not to proceed, leaving PARC with outstanding funds. Many donors requested their cash went to charity, so PARC looked for an organisation with similar aims and decided the Pioneer Club was a suitable and worthy cause.
Their residual sum of £2,432.04 was handed over to the Pioneer last week.
PARC co-chair Rod Cooley said: “The Pioneer Club is home to the oldest indoor skatepark in the UK, and does some incredible work teaching skateboarding and supporting
children. The charity also works with young people and their families through support groups and programmes, and offers school holiday activities such as a community cinema and skate and dance camps.
“The PARC team would like to thank everyone who donated so generously for a new skatepark in Rothamsted Park. The Playpark Action Rothamsted Committee charity will now be closed.”
