Emergency services were called to deal with a gas leak in Harpenden High Street yesterday which resulted in damage to the pavement.
The damage was caused by the release of pressure from the leak, which was close to Sainsbury’s supermarket in the town.
Resident Steve Collins told the St Albans Times: “The explosion blew bricks up from the pavement, and was very close to a bench, but luckily no one was sitting there at the time. “
One appliance from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended and laid out one jet as a precaution.
A spokesperson for Herts police added: “Police were called at around 9.38am yesterday (Wednesday 22 May) to assist the fire and rescue service with traffic management following a gas leak on High Street, Harpenden.”
